ABOUT DR. LARRY JONES

Larry Jones is the founder and president of Feed The Children, an international nonprofit organization providing aid and assistance to children and families in need in the U.S. and around the world. Larry and his wife Frances started the organization in 1979, with their first office in the kitchen of their home. Today, Feed The Children is one of the largest and most efficient charities in the country, consistently spending less than 15 percent on fundraising and administrative costs. In 1995, Feed The Children was finalist for Inc. Magazine's customer service award – its customers were identified as "every hungry child in the world."

Last year, Feed The Children distributed 183 million pounds of food and other essentials to children and families in all 50 states and internationally, supplementing more than 1,463,000 meals every day, worldwide. Since its founding, Feed The Children has provided aid to children and families in 118 countries. Through the $746,000,000 worth of "gifts in kind," Feed The Children also provided warm coats, shoes, diapers and blankets, toys, hygiene items, medical supplies, and school books to impoverished families. In response to the AIDS pandemic, in August 2001 Feed The Children established the Frances Jones Abandoned Baby Center outside Nairobi, Kenya, to care for and nurture babies who have been discarded and left to die.

The humanitarian work of Feed The Children is well known. So is the humanitarian spirit of Larry Jones. Over the years he has received national and international recognition for his service to others, including the H. J. Heimlich Humanitarian Award for relief efforts throughout the world in 2000, the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews in 1995, Oklahoman of the Year in 1994, the National Caring Award in 1993, ABC News "Person of the Week" in 1990, plus Humanitarian Commendations from Armenia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iran, and Lebanon. Additionally, Larry Jones is the author of numerous books, includingHow to Bend without Breaking, How to Make It to Friday, he 15-Second Secret, Life's Interruptions – God's Opportunities and his debut novel, Black Box.

Larry was once asked, "How do you determine where the need is?" to which he replied, "Take a map, turn out the lights, and throw a dart. Wherever it lands, that's where the need is."
